Naia Terminal 2

MANILA, Philippines — Electrical maintenance works and upgrades at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) terminals, which started on Tuesday, will be carried out on a staggered basis in the next few months, according to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

MIAA officer-in-charge Bryan Co assured the public that maintenance and upgrades will be carried out at Naia Terminals 1, 2, 3, and 4, as well as other facilities, on “a staggered manner to minimize the associated power interruptions.”

“This program will span multiple months because we are making substantial investments in upgrading various facilities beyond Naia Terminal 3. Our focus includes acquiring new equipment to augment capacity and replace outdated equipment. This concerted effort will contribute to a more reliable and robust airport infrastructure that enhances passenger and stakeholder experience,” Co said in a statement.

He added that an advance notice for the scheduled electrical upgrades and maintenance activities will be issued and that such actions will not impact flight operations.

So far, Co said that MIAA has successfully replaced and energized medium voltage underground cables, circuit breakers, relays, and current transformers within the airport’s Terminal 3 South Concourse substation.

Throughout this period, Co disclosed that generator sets were provided to ensure continuous operation of vital equipment and facilities and uninterrupted passenger processing.

“Full energization back to the main power source was achieved by 12 noon of the same day. There was an hour extension that was necessary to thoroughly test and validate the newly installed equipment, all while ensuring no adverse impact on airport operations,” he said.
