MMDA records 44,493 vehicular accidents in Metro Manila from Jan to July

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday said it has so far recorded a total of 44,493 vehicular accidents in Metro Manila from January to July.
According to MMDA in a statement, 32,800 of the accidents resulted in damage to property, with 168 fatal injuries and 11,525 non-fatal injuries.
The month of May led with the most accidents at 7,505, followed by March at 7,305.
July had the least number of accidents at only 3,277 recorded road crashes.
Four-wheelers accounted for almost 44,000 of the vehicles involved in the accidents, said the MMDA.
The MMDA released the data on traffic accidents amid its move to implement the single-ticketing system (STS), under the new Metro Manila traffic code by September.
The STS centralizes traffic fines, allowing it to be paid through online payment methods regardless of where they are.
The new system is currently being implemented in Valenzuela, Caloocan, Muntinlupa, San Juan, Parañaque, and Quezon City before transitioning to the entire Metro Manila.
