Collapsed road affects 5,000 residents in Calbayog City in Samar

TACLOBAN CITY — About 5,000 people were isolated from the city of Calbayog in Samar after a road collapsed due to heavy rains on Sunday, Aug. 13.

No one was hurt.

The road connecting the villages of Navarro, Bontay, Acidillo, Kilikili, and Gadgaran to the city proper was destroyed due to the rains, according to a report from the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO).

The heavy downpour started at about 3 a.m. and stopped at around 9 a.m., a personnel from the CDRRMO, who asked not to be named for lack of authority to speak, said in a phone interview.

The heavy rain was caused by a low pressure area.
