MANILA, Philippines – The Southern Police District (SPD) on Saturday said it arrested a former Army member for using counterfeit money in a store in Taguig.
SPD, in a statement on Saturday, said Kevin Jhon Soncio, 30, was nabbed at about 9:50 p.m. on Friday, August 11.
“[A] minor witness was in charge as cashier in the sari-sari store when the suspect paid P1000 as payment for one pack of cigarettes. Witness examined the said bill and he discovered that the said money was fake with the same serial number as the one he received on July 30, 2023,” SPD said.
Following this, the witness immediately called for help from the Barangay Security Force of Barangay Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.
This resulted in Soncio’s arrest.
SPD said nine fake P1000 bills, along with ten identification cards, were recovered from Soncio.
The authorities likewise detailed that Soncio introduced himself as a member of the Philippine Army, but upon verification, cops found that the suspect was already dismissed from service.
“[Soncio] will be facing complaints for violation of Article 168 or Illegal possession and use of False Treasury or Bank Notes and Other Instruments of Credit; Article 177 or Usurpation of Authority; and Art 171 or Falsification of Public Document of the Revised Penal Code,” said SPD.
