MANILA, Philippines — The camp of beleaguered Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. brushed off the congressman’s indictment on three counts of murder as mere “crab justice.”

According to Teves’ counsel Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, the lawmakers’ indictment “comes as no surprise,” adding that the proceedings conducted in the Department of Justice have been reduced to no more than a “moro-moro” (comedy).

He added that their camp expects more “harassment” to come, especially after the Anti-Terrorism Council recently tagged Teves and 12 other suspects as terrorists.

“Those who have filed these baseless complaints should not be heard to rejoice about their empty victory. With the deck stacked heavily in their favor, even an alimangong bato (crab) could have secured an indictment. It is not a validation of the strength of their case, but of the present perversion of the system.

“Unfortunately for these persecutors, crab justice does not prevail in our courts. We have all seen our share of  shadowy criminal cases fade into nothing in the cold light of truth presented before the courts,” he added.

This pronouncement came after Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla bared three more murder cases against Teves, this time, for three deaths in 2019 — all unrelated to the murder of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo, of which Teves is tagged as the mastermind.
