MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Taguig on Friday said that it is “all systems go” for the opening of classes in the 14 public schools that were transferred from the jurisdiction of Makati to Taguig after the Supreme Court (SC) resolved a territorial dispute between the two cities in favor of Taguig.
According to the Taguig City government, Taguig City officials, the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Taguig-Pateros Superintendent, and principals of the Embo schools — comprised of Barangays Pembo, Comembo, Cembo, South Cembo, West Rembo, East Rembo, and Pitogo — have already met to synchronize efforts for a seamless start of educational initiatives.
The 14 public schools in Embo include:
- Makati Science High School
- Comembo Elementary School
- Rizal Elementary School
- Pembo Elementary School
- Benigno “Ninoy” S. Aquino High School
- Tibagan High School
- Fort Bonifacio Elementary School
- Fort Bonifacio High School
- Pitogo Elementary School
- Pitogo High School
- Cembo Elementary School
- East Rembo Elementary School
- West Rembo Elementary School
- South Cembo Elementary School
The said schools were transferred to the supervision of the DepEd Division of Taguig-Pateros following a memorandum from the DepEd National Capital Region that directed the schools’ divisions to “coordinate with their respective LGU counterparts for the smooth and orderly transition and turn-over of the management and supervision of the identified schools and personnel.”
Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano and various city officials then vowed to work together to benefit the students, parents, teachers, and school personnel.
To recall, the SC third division denied the Makati City government’s request to file a second motion for reconsideration regarding its territorial dispute with Taguig, effectively declaring that Taguig owns Fort Bonifacio Military Reservation — where Bonifacio Global City is located — and ordered Makati’s city government to stop exercising its authority within the area.
Apart from BGC, among the areas included in the court’s decision are Barangays Pembo, Comembo, Cembo, South Cembo, West Rembo, East Rembo, Pitogo, Philippine Army headquarters, Navy installation, Marines’ headquarters, Consular area, Joint United States Military Assistance Group area, Heritage Park, Libingan ng mga Bayani, Armed Forces of the Philippines Officers Village and six other near villages.
