President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named former police Col. Gil Torralba as deputy director general for operations, the third-highest position in the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

In a statement, BuCor chief Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. said Torralba served as warden of the Cavite Provincial Jail prior to his appointment.

With the addition of Torralba, the top officials of the BuCor are now composed of Catapang, a former military chief; and Deputy Director Al Perreras, a retired military judge advocate general.

Catapang welcomed the appointment of Torralba, especially now that he is implementing stricter security measures to protect the lives and human rights of persons deprived of liberty and at the same time they are in the process of reviewing the privileges granted to inmates. —DEXTER CABALZA
