Negros Occidental cop killed, 2 others wounded in clash with NPA

A female political detainee at the Negros Occidental District Jail on Tuesday, May 30, called on the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) to conduct an "immediate and impartial" investigation on the disappearance of her daughter and two motorcycle-for-hire drivers from La Castellana town last April 19.

 

BACOLOD CITY – A police officer was killed while two others were wounded while on their way to serve warrants of arrest for ranking New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Barangay Minapasok, Calatrava, Negros Occidental Wednesday morning.

Corporal Jaime Nunez sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the body.

Capt. Jesus Alba, Calatrava deputy police chief, and Corporal Dennis Nasis were wounded and brought to hospital, according to Lt. Col. Joem Malong, deputy for operations of the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office.

Army and police personnel were on their way to serve warrants of arrest on the rebels identified as Darry Dayawan, Charity Amacan and others when the encounter broke out, a police report said.

The composite team  was made up of elements from the 79th Infantry Battalion, 6th Battalion of the Regional Mobile Group, 6th Special Action Battalion, 1st Negros Occidental Police Mobile Force Company and ten members of the Calatrava police station.
