STA. MARIA, Bulacan — A couple and their two children were killed early Tuesday, Aug. 8,  after a fire razed their house in Barangay Caypombo in this town.

Inspector Jonathan Hungriano Jr., Sta. Maria Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) chief, identified the victims as Roy Lozano and his wife, Marie, both 39; and their children Cedric Lozano, 13, and Andrei Lozano, 12.

Hungriano said the victims were sleeping on the second floor of the house when the fire broke out at 2 a.m. from the ground floor.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the blaze, which awakened the family’s longtime helper, who was staying on the ground floor, and managed to survive.

The helper reportedly tried but failed to rescue the victims because of the thick smoke.

Hungriano said the victims suffered severe burns, adding that the second floor was partially gutted by the fire.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the flame after about 50 minutes. INQ
