Motorcyclist dead after hitting parked truck in Batangas town

A motorcycle rider bumps into a parked truck in Tuy, Batangas, and died.

LUCENA CITY — A 54-year-old motorcycle rider died after he bumped into a parked truck in Tuy town in Batangas province before midnight Friday (August 4), police said.

Joel Dela Cruz was traveling aboard his motorcycle around 11:35 p.m. when his vehicle slammed into the rear portion of a parked truck on the right side of the road in Barangay (village) Putol, a spot report from Batangas police said Saturday.

Due to the strong impact, the victim suffered fatal injuries and died on the way to Don Manuel Lopez Memorial District Hospital in neighboring Balayan town.

Police did not specify if the parked truck had an early warning device to alarm approaching vehicles.

The truck driver is under police custody while an investigation is underway.

The report did not state whether or not the fatality was wearing a crash helmet, which is required by the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.

The police said the concerned parties were open to an amicable settlement.
