MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives adopted on Wednesday Resolution No. 1111 to express its condolences to the family of former Sen. Rodolfo Biazon who died last June 12.
The resolution, which was adopted after a viva voce vote, was authored by Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe, Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, Senior Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander Marcos, and Tingog party-list Reps. Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre.
HR No. 1111 was consolidated with other similar resolutions filed on the death of Biazon, who was a House member in the 15th and 16th Congresses.
“Resolved, by the House of Representatives, to express its profound condolences to the family of Honorable Rodolfo G. Biazon, former Senator, Representative of the Lone Legislative District of Muntinlupa City, during the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Congresses, and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” HR No. 1111 stated.
Biazon died on June 12 — on the celebration of Philippines Independence Day — which lawmakers and friends said was fitting for someone who upheld and fought for the country’s democracy.
The former senator, who was battling lung cancer, was reported to have contracted pneumonia before he died.
Several resolutions, including HR No. 1111, were filed in June and in July, but the Senate and the House could not act on them since the session had been adjourned.
The session resumed on July 24, hours before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. delivered his second State of the Nation Address.
During the necrological service for Biazon, several of his colleagues thanked him for his service, noting that he remained humble when he ran for the Senate, even if he was already a well-decorated military official.
