Did you know: Paco Cemetery

Paco Cemetery in Manila, now known as Paco Park, was completed 190 years ago on April 22, 1822. Known then as the Cementerio General de Dilao or Cementerio General de Paco, its construction began in 1814. It served as a burial ground for victims of a cholera epidemic in the 1820s. Jose Rizal’s remains were first buried in the cemetery before these were later transferred. The cemetery was converted as a national park in 1966 and is no longer used for burials.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
