Currents damage Camiling River’s slope in Tarlac
MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga — Strong currents caused by Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) and heavy monsoon rains damaged a portion of Camiling River’s slope protection in Tarlac on Friday (July 28), the Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Office 3 (DPWH RO3) reported Saturday (July 29).
In a social media post on Friday night, DPWH RO3 said District Engineer Neil Farala initiated a sandbagging operation along the river at Cacamilingan village in Camiling town “to mitigate the impact of the flooding.”
It said the flood caused by Typhoon Egay has affected residents and motorists in the said village in Tarlac.
“Affected residents have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, particularly during heavy rainfall, to ensure their safety. The DPWH is actively working to address the issue and restore the slope protection to its proper functionality,” the DPWH RO3 said.
The damaged slope protection is around 50 meters long.
In Pampanga, two roads remain impassable to all types of vehicles due to a meter-deep flood. These include the Candaba-San Miguel Road’s portion in Paralaya, Candaba, and the Baliwag-Candaba-Santa Ana Road’s portion in San Agustin, Candaba.
Some portions of Apalit-Macabebe-Masantol Road, Santo Tomas-Minalin Road, San Simon section of the Tulauc-Santo Domingo Road are still inundated with up to 35-centimeter deep floodwater and can be accessed only by heavy vehicles like dump trucks.
