Former lawmaker Savellano named DA usec
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed former lawmaker and fellow Ilocano Deogracias Victor Savellano as undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture, the Presidential Communications Office announced on Friday.
Savellano, 63, lost against Ronald Singson, the son of Narvacan Mayor Luis “Chavit” Singson, in the 2022 Ilocos Sur congressional race.
Savellano, who married actress Dina Bonnevie in 2012, served as an Ilocos Sur representative from 2016 to 2022 and became a House deputy speaker from 2019 until last year.
He also served as Ilocos Sur governor from 2021 to 2004 and from 2007 and 2010.
He graduated with an economics degree from the University of the Philippines and a master’s degree in International Business Administration in California.
