MANILA, Philippines — Four Philippine Coast Guard rescuers who were helping victims of typhoon Egay went missing after their aluminum boat capsized in Cagayan.

In a statement, PCG on Thursday said it has since launched a search and rescue operation to find their personnel whose boat overturned in the waters off Abulug, Cagayan at 4:00 pm on Wednesday.

However, bad weather forced the suspension of this activity.

PCG said it will deploy its helicopter from Coast Guard Aviation Force to assist in the search.

The missing PCG crew were supposed to rescue the crew of M/Tug (tugboat) Iroquois about 21 nautical miles away from Aparri.

On Wednesday, strong winds were whipping Cagayan.

The province was under typhoon signal number 3 and a gale warning was up in the area at the time PCG rescuers were trying to cross the waters of Aparri.
