DELUGE IN THE NORTH Torrential rains and gusty winds whipped up by Typhoon ‘Egay’ (international name: Doksuri) left a trail of destruction across Northern Luzon on Wednesday. MANILA, Philippines — Two of three airports in Northern Luzon that sustained minor damage due to Typhoon Egay have resumed operations, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced on Thursday.
These aviation facilities are Vigan Airport in Ilocos Sur and Lingayen Airport in Pangasinan.
CAAP Spokesperson Eric Apolonio said only Laoag Airport in Ilocos Norte has not been repaired.
“Nabigyan na po ng pansin ito, except for sa Laoag Airport na hanggang ngayon ay inaayos natin,” Apolonio gave the update.
(We have given attention to this, except for Laoag Airport which, until now, we are fixing.)
“All other airports d’yan sa Northern Luzon, back to normal operations na po,” he said.
(All other airports in Northern Luzon are already back to normal operations.)
It was reported on Wednesday that Egay had brought minimum damage to Vigan Airport.
Strong winds also wrecked the roof of its fire station.
Power and internet connection have been restored in these sites.
Apolonio noted airport personnel are just currently cleaning the runways.
“So far po, nililinis lang naman natin ‘yong mga facilities at mga runway dahil ‘yan ang importante para maalis ‘yong tinatawag na FOD natin – ‘yong foreign object debris na napaka-delikado na ma-ingest ng mga aircraft engine,” he said.
(So far, we are just cleaning the facilities and the runways because it is important to remove what are called our FODs – those foreign object debris that are very dangerous if these are ingested by aircraft engines.)
Similarly, CAAP has advised travelers to check with their airlines and airports of destination to know whether or not their flights have been delayed or cancelled.
