MANILA, Philippines — New Bilibid Prison (NBP) has been placed under red alert status, temporarily suspending prisoners’ visitation privilege.
This situation prevails after one died and nine others were injured in a fight between two members of groups Bahala Na Gang and Batang City Jail Tuesday evening.
Acting Superintendent Jail Senior Inspector Angelina Bautista said the prisoners had resolved their conflicts when one of the convicts made trouble.
[Initial report submitted by our IIS to our director stated there were two PDLs were having a personal clash. Then, they were able to resolve their differences. The problem was, there was one PDL who suddenly drew a gun and fired it.]
She said an in-depth investigation began last night.
A clearing operation was also conducted, where authorities recovered a .45 caliber pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition.
Nine other prisoners sustained minor injuries.
