Super Typhoon Egay maintains strength; Signal No. 5 up over rest of Babuyan Islands

MANILA, Philippines — Babuyan Islands is now under Signal No. 5 as Super Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) maintains its strength while slowly moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau said on Tuesday.

Citing its 8 p.m. weather bulletin, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Egay was last monitored 135 kilometers (km) East Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan.

The state weather bureau said Egay carries maximum sustained winds of 185 kph and gustiness of up to 230 kph.

Pagasa likewise raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 4 over the northern portion of Cagayan province (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Calveria, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Aparri, Buguey, Santa Teresita, Camalaniugan, Santa Praxedes), while TCWS No. 3 is hoisted over the northeastern portion of Isabela (Divilacan, Maconacon, Palanan, Santa Maria, San Pablo, Santo Tomas, Cabagan, Tumauini); the rest of Cagayan; Apayao; Ilocos Norte; northern portion of Kalinga (Rizal, Pinukpuk, Balbalan); Batanes; and north part of Abra (Tineg, Lagayan, Lacub, Danglas).
