MANILA, Philippines — A retired Philippine National Police personnel was arrested in Laguna for allegedly selling loose firearms, authorities said on Monday.
Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director Police Major General Romeo Caramat Jr. identified the suspect as Marcelito Michelana Marcial, 60, who was caught in the act of selling loose firearms to a police undercover in a buy-bust operation last Wednesday, July 19.
Caramat said Marcial was found to be in possession of the following pieces of evidence: one unit Caliber 45 pistol (Remington) M1911 A1 U.S; two pieces steel magazine for caliber 45 pistol; six rounds of live ammunition for caliber 45; and one piece black holster for caliber 45, along with the boodle money.
“Marcial is transacting through text and call to the buyers of illegal firearms around Batangas and Laguna,” Caramat said in a statement in Filipino.
The arrested person was brought to CIDG Batangas for documentation and proper disposition.
Marcial is now facing a criminal complaint for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Law.—Kirsten Segui, INQUIRER.net trainee
