MANILA, Philippines — The weekly COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila decreased from 4 percent to 3.3 percent, independent pandemic monitor Octa Research said on Monday.
“[Seven]-day testing positivity rate in NCR decreased from four percent on July 15 to 3.3 percent on July 22 2023,” Octa research fellow Guido David said in a Twitter post.

Metro Manila’s latest positivity rate is within the World Health Organization’s benchmark of five percent.
David added that the following provinces in Luzon recorded a positivity rate of less than five percent: Batangas (3.5 percent), Bulacan (3.8 percent), Cavite (3.2 percent), La Union (3.5 percent) and Quezon (3.7 percent).
According to David, Ilocos Norte recorded the highest positivity rate in Luzon at 21.4 percent.
The positivity rate refers to the number of persons out of 100 who test positive for COVID-19.
Given COVID-19’s downward trend, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. lifted the nationwide state of public health emergency last week.
On Monday, the Department of Health (DOH) said the country has recorded 4,171,618 COVID-19 cases, including 5,121 active cases, 4,099,995 recoveries, and 66,542 deaths. (with Kirsten Segui, Inquirer.net trainee)
