Gamaliel Cordoba, former National Telecommunications Commission chair and now Commission on Audit chief, received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays in a ceremony at the residence of Japan’s ambassador to the Philippines.
The award was given to Cordoba last July 19 by Japanese Ambassador Kazuhiko Koshikawa on behalf of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan in recognition of Cordoba’s contributions in advancing cooperation between Japan and the Philippines in the field of telecommunications.
Kazuhiko cited Cordoba’s pivotal role in the application of ISDB-T [1] in the Philippines. ISDB-T is a terrestrial digital television-broadcasting standard devised by Japan. In cooperation with Japan, Cordoba led efforts for the smooth launch and dissemination of ISDB-T in the Philippines.
Cordoba thanked the Japanese government for the award and for Japan’s crucial role in the Philippines’ migration to digital television.
He also cited President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s push to digitize all government transactions and processes.
Cordoba said Japan could also play a key role in Marcos’ digitalization agenda.
The awarding ceremony was witnessed by First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos,, Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and other notable guests.
