Female Korean found dead in Makati condo

/ 12:31 AM June 26, 2011

Authorities on Saturday discovered the decomposing body of a female Korean national, who was believed to have committed suicide a few days ago in Makati City. Case investigator Police Officer 3 Dominador Robles of the Makati Police, said the body of victim Won Young was discovered hanging with a white cloth tied around her neck to a door’s post inside her unit at Prince Plaza Condominium in Legaspi Village around 11:40 a.m. He said the victim could have been dead for a few days. “Her body was already in an advance state of decomposition,” Robles said. Prior to the discovery, the condominium’s roving security guard reportedly smelled a foul odor coming from the victim’s unit. Robles said they have already ruled the case as a suicide, saying there was no sign of forcible entry on the victim’s unit. Tina G. Santos

2 men robbed during heavy downpour

Four motorcycle-riding men allegedly robbed two persons, including a barangay official, of more than P80,000 worth of electronic gadgets and jewelry during Friday evening’s heavy downpour in Manila. The robbers, riding tandem on two motorcycles, reportedly stopped in front of pedestrians, who were waiting for the rains to stop at the corner of Moriones and Asuncion Streets in Tondo, and robbed them at gunpoint. Senior Police Officer 3 Lani Hardin, desk officer of the Manila Police District (MPD) Moriones, Tondo station 2, identified the robbery victims as Erwin Chua, of Binondo, and Barangay (village) 270 Zone 35 councilor Edwin Ocampo, of Moriones, Tondo. The two, with three other pedestrians, had stopped under a roof to wait for the rains to abate when the four motorcycle-riding men arrived and held them up. Jeannette I. Andrade

5 ‘big-time drug pushers’ caught in 2 operations

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said it caught five “big-time drug pushers” in two entrapment operations in Cavite province and Mandaluyong City last week. Seized from the five men were more than 100 grams of shabu, or methamphetamine hydrochloride worth P1 million, PDEA said. In a statement Saturday, PDEA Director General Jose S. Gutierrez Jr. identified the arrested suspects in the Cavite buy-bust operation on June 21 as Noel Sarno and Henry Quintero. Arrested in the Mandaluyong operation on June 22 were Dennis Romero,  Erick Oduca, and Gerry Alsona, 32. Sarno was caught red-handed selling 54.69 grams of shabu to a PDEA agent who acted as poseur buyer during a transaction in Mandarin Homes Subdivision, Malagasang Road in Imus. The suspects are now detained at the PDEA Metro Manila Regional Office Detention Facility awaiting court orders for disposition, the agency said. DJ Yap
