MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday received new drones which will be used to monitor and secure the 2nd State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday.
The ceremonial turnover of the drones was held at PNP headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
PNP chief General Benjamin Acorda said the drones are expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of the nation during the Sona 2023 on Monday.
“The importance of these drones cannot be overstated,” Acorda said during the turnover ceremony.
“Embracing technological advancements, such as these drones, enhances our capabilities and allows us to carry out our duties with even greater efficiency and effectiveness,” he said.
With the ability to monitor crowds, traffic, and potential security threats from a strategic vantage point, the deployment of the drones will provide crucial aerial surveillance during the Sona 2023, according to the PNP.
PNP said the four units of DJ Mini 3 Pro drones and one unit of DJI Mavic 3 Thermal Enterprise drones were donated by the management of Okada Manila, a casino resort and hotel complex.
The initial donation is part of the 43 total units worth P10 million, according to the PNP.(Ivana Romero, INQUIRER.net trainee)
