Cotabato town mayor hurt in car accident in Digos City
DIGOS CITY — Mayor Juanito Cloud Agustin of Pigcawayan town, Cotabato province was hurt in a vehicular accident at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday along the Davao to Cotabato national highway in Barangay Tres de Mayo in this city.
Lieutenant Colonel Hamblet Lerios, Digos City police chief, said Agustin, 54, was driving a Nissan Navara pickup with five family members aboard when the vehicle hit the concrete center island of the road near the Iglesia ni Cristo church in the village here.
He was immediately rushed to the Digos Doctors’ Hospital, while five of his family members, namely: Nancy Agustin, 42; Jacky Agustin, 37; Juan Agustin, 15; Angel Caños, 10; and Nickie Agustin, 9; were rushed to the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital for treatment.
The car accident came only days after two soldiers and six civilians were also injured in a four-vehicle smash up on Monday along the same highway in Barangay Cabligan, Matanao town, Davao del Sur.
Major Flor Daisy Angga, Matanao acting police chief, said the soldiers and five of the injured civilians were aboard a green Hyundai KM of the 39th IB Philippine Army heading towards this city, when a Toyota Fortuner heading north hit the rear end of the Toyota Rush traveling towards Digos City at 8:35 a.m. on Monday.
Article continues after this advertisementIn turn, the Toyota Rush hit the Army truck (KM) by the tailing, which also caused the Mitsubishi Mirage closely following behind to hit the rear bumper of the Army truck.
