Pagasa weather update
MANILA, Philippines — Flood advisories were issued by the state weather bureau on Thursday morning, reiterating that river systems and water channels in parts of Bicol, Visayas, and Mindanao may still be affected by the rain showers brought by the low pressure area (LPA) south of the archipelago.
Pagasa, at 6 a.m. on Thursday, said following are the water courses likely to be affected by rain showers brought by the LPA:
Bicol Region
- Catanduanes – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Cabuyan, Bato, and Pajo
- Sorsogon – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly lower Donsol, Ogod, Putiao, Cadacan, Banuang-Daan, Fabrica, and Matnog
- Masbate – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Lanang, Mapayawan, Mandaon, Asid, Malbug, Guiom, Nainday, Daraga, Nauco, and Baleno
- Albay – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Guinale and Upper Donsol
Based on Pagasa’s 12-hour forecast rainfall, light to occasional moderate rain showers and thunderstorms may affect the Bicol Region.
Western Visayas
- Capiz – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Panay, Mambusao, Panay Malinao, Alingon, and Balantian
- Antique – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Sibalom, Ipayo, Cagaranan, Palawan, Cairauan, Dalanas, and Tibiao
- Guimaras – All rivers and its tributaries
- Iloilo – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Pinantan, Barotac, Akalaygan, Jalaud, Jalano, Jagdong, Jalaur, Lamunan, Jaro-Aganan, Sibalom, and Guimbal
- Negros Occidental – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Malogo, Sicaba, Grande, Himogaan, Danao, Upper Tabanan, Sipalay, and Lower Ilog
- Aklan – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Ibajay, Aklan, and Jalo
Similar to the forecast in Bicol Region, the state weather bureau said light to moderate rains may also prevail in Western Visayas.
Eastern Visayas
- Leyte – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Sangputan, Palo, Solano, Daguitan Marabang, Cadac-an, Bongquirogon, Salug, Pagbangahan, Pagsangahan, and Binahaan
- Northern Samar – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Catarman, Bugko, Pambujan, Catubig, Palapag, Mawo, and Gamay
- Eastern Samar – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Oras, Dolores, Ulot, Taft, Borongan, Suribao, Llorente, Balangiga, and Sulat
- Samar – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Basey, Silanga, Calbiga, and Jibatan
- Biliran – All rivers and its tributaries
- Southern Leyte – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Bisay, Himbangan, and Pandan
Residents of Eastern Visayas were advised to brace for moderate to occasionally heavy downpour within the next 12 hours.
Caraga
- Surigao del Norte – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Surigao and Magallanes
- Dinagat Islands – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Malinao Inlet and Gaas Lulet
- Agusan del Norte – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Lake Mainit-Tubay, Asiga, Agusan, Linugos, and Cabadbaran
- Surigao del Sur – Rivers and its tributaries, particularly Cantilan, Carac-an, Tandag, Tago, Hubo-Oteiza, Hinatuan, and Bislig
Light to moderate rains and thunderstorms may affect Caraga on Thursday, said Pagasa. Meanwhile, the state weather bureau warned dwellers near the aforementioned water courses to remain vigilant against rain-induced hazards.
“People living near the mountain slopes and in the low-lying areas of the above-mentioned rivers systems are still advised to take necessary precautionary measures,” it reiterated.
The LPA being monitored by Pagasa was last observed 650 kilometers east-northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or 715 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.
