MANILA, Philippines— The first batch of blank motor vehicle plates — containing around 108,400 plates in total — arrived on Tuesday, the Department of Transportation said on Wednesday.

A total of 16,040,630 plates will be delivered by the winning bidder, Trojan-Tonnjes Joint Venture, in the next 10 months.

“Today there was a delivery of 108,400 plates and then every other day there will be a delivery of almost 100,00. So we’ll be able to receive 500,000 plates before the first week of August,” Bautista said.

Bautista added that he was already coordinating with the plate-making firms, with the DOTr aiming to resolve the backlog in motorcycle vehicles within 2023.

“We will try to get rid of that backlog with the procurement of these plates, and at the same time we will improve the production,” he said in Filipino.
