LPA to bring overcast skies, rains in many parts of PH on Thursday

MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) off Surigao del Sur will bring overcast skies with rains in many parts of the country on Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said the LPA will be the cause of cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Marinduque, Romblon, the southern portion of Quezon and Bicol Region in Luzon; the entire Visayas; and Caraga Region, Camiguin Island, and Misamis Oriental in Mindanao.

As of 3:00 p.m., the rain-inducing LPA was located 695 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Dominguez said that the LPA could become a tropical cyclone “within 24 to 48 hours” from the 4:00 p.m. bulletin.

Once it becomes a tropical cyclone, it will be called “Egay.”

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience generally fair weather, according to Dominguez.

Pagasa did not raise a gale warning in any seaboards nationwide.
