New COVID-19 cases decline by 23%

MANILA, Philippines — The daily average of COVID-19 cases detected fell by 23 percent from 359 to 277 cases, according to the weekly bulletin of the Department of Health (DOH).

Of the 1,938 individuals who tested positive for the virus last week, 25 were severely or critically ill.

At least 3,040 patients are currently admitted due to COVID-19, including 324 patients in serious or critical condition.

As of July 16, 5,681 individuals were still infected with the virus. All regions remain classified as “low risk,” according to the DOH, with a national average attack rate or incidence rate of 0.3 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population.

The national utilization of reserved Intensive care units (ICU) and non-ICU beds stood at 10.4 percent and 16 percent, respectively, which are considered low risk.

The DOH reported 26 deaths due to COVID-19 in the past three months, bringing the death toll to 66,510.
