Honasan: ‘Public support needed by authorities to arrest Ecleo’

SEN. Gregorio Honasan admitted yesterday that the law enforcers need the full support from the public to arrest parricide convict Rep. Ruben Ecleo Jr. of Dinagat island, Surigao del Norte.

Ecleo, the supreme master of the Philippine Benevolent Missionary Association, was convicted by a Cebu City Regional Trial Court of parricide for the murder of his wife, Alona Bacolod, ten years ago.

“I am not blaming the police nor the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for their failure to catch Ecleo, but I am confident that the law enforcers will bring the fugitive to justice,” Sen. Honasan said.

“Though it created a bad image to the public, we have to trust our law enforcers and the justice system in the Philippines,” he added.

Honasan was in Cebu City yesterday as guest speaker in a forum organized by the Liga ng mga Barangay.

Meanwhile, the senator said that he is very confident that the Senate sitting as an impeachment court of Chief Justice Renato Corona will give a fair verdict.

“We are not yet sure if the impeachment will be finished in June but, I am confident that all the senator judges will give a fair verdict,” he said./Correspondent Careen . Malahay
