SAN ANTONIO, Zambales, Philippines — The local disaster response team in Botolan town in this province rescued eight teachers from a remote upland Aeta community on Sunday, July 16.
Riding carts drawn by carabaos, the teachers from Maguisguis Integrated School and Burgos Elementary School decided to go home at around 10 a.m. But they had a hard time crossing a raging river due to bad weather.
The stranded teachers managed to call a fellow teacher, who in turn asked for help from the local rescuers, according to the Botolan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).
The MDRRMO said it deployed a team to bring the teachers to safety and help them return home.
