Motorcycle rider dead in Batangas road accident

LUCENA CITY — A motorcycle rider died after his vehicle accidentally slid and got it hit by a passing sports utility vehicle in Bauan town in Batangas province on Saturday night (July 15).

Batangas police reported Sunday (July 15) that Conrado Mendoza, 50, was negotiating a section of the road in Barangay (village) San Roque around 10:40 p.m. when his motorcycle suddenly slid.

The wayward motorcycle was consequently hit and dragged by a Nissan Terra driven by John David Malazaga.

Mendoza died on the way to Bauan General Hospital due to his injuries.

Police said Malazaga was driving under the influence of liquor.

The police are conducting further investigation while Malazaga remains in their custody.

The police did not say if the victim was wearing a crash helmet for protection as mandated under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
