Hog raisers hit by pig deaths in Negros Occidental to receive gov’t aid

BACOLOD CTY — Backyard hog raisers who were hardest hit by pig deaths due to various diseases in three Negros Occidental localities will be the first to receive financial assistance from the provincial government.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz on Friday, July 14, said affected hog raisers from San Enrique and Ilog towns and Bago City will receive P2,000 each next week.

“The assistance will be delivered by the provincial government to the affected pig raisers,” he said.

San Enrique has 2,671 pig deaths comprising 99.22 percent of its hog population and affecting 508 raisers, the Provincial Animal Biosecurity Incident Management Team (PABIMT) reported Friday.

Bago City has 2,433 pig deaths, or 11.93 percent of its hog population, affecting 319 raisers, the report added.

Ilog has 1,390 pig deaths, affecting 431 raisers.

There have been 16,985 pig deaths in 152 barangays in 20 local governments in Negros Occidental with total losses of P192,818,550.

This has affected 3,835 pig raisers.
