Four commercial sex workers, including one who is six months pregnant, were rescued by police in barangay Kamagayan, a known red-light district in Cebu City.
The women, aged 21 to 26, were turned over to social workers for counseling. Police said three men who acted as pimps eluded arrest.
Chief Insp. Joab Guia Arnoco of the Women and Children’s Desk of the Cebu City Police Office said a decoy customer was used to ask for four women from the pimps Wednesday night.
The women were brought to a dark portion of the road but the pimps, however, noticed the presence of the police and ran off.
Arnoco said some of the women had been “rescued” before but kept returning to the streets, saying they had no other way to support their children.
Meanwhile, five of the 14 females rescued from two KTV bars in Bogo City were released after it was proven they were adults.
Edna Regudo of DSWD-7 Crisis Intervention Unit said three underage girls remain in their custody and others who have yet to present birth certificates./CORRESPONDENTS CHITO O. ARAGON AND JESSA CHRISNA MARIE L. AGUA
