Sandiganbayan drops raps vs PhilPhos exec
The Sandiganbayan has granted the prosecution’s plea to drop the graft charges against Tomas Guibani, a former executive of the Philippine Phosphate Fertilizer Corp. (PhilPhos), over the purchase of fertilizers amounting to P46 million.
The ruling was in compliance with a Supreme Court decision last year ordering the Sandiganbayan to drop all the charges against former Agriculture Secretary Luis Lorenzo and former National Food Authority Administrator Arthur Yap over the 2003 purchase.
The high court said that the case had dragged on for years and constituted a violation of their right to a speedy trial. —DEMPSEY REYES
