MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday said the South Commuter Railway Project (SCRP) development is expected to generate 3,000 new jobs.
The SCRP is part of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) System, a major railway project linking Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila and Laguna.
“I am also happy to note that we are anticipating the generation of approximately 3,000 jobs once civil works for these sections begin,” said the President in his keynote address during the signing of Contract Packages S-01, S-03A, and S-03C in Malacañan Palace on Thursday.
The contracts cover the following stations:
- S-01: Blumentritt
- S-03A: Buendia, Edsa, Senate
- S-03C: Bicutan, Sucat
“With the signing of these three contract packages that cover a total of around 14.9 kilometers of at-grade and railway viaduct structures, we will be a step closer to our goal of serving around 800,000 commuters daily by 2029,” said Marcos.
The operations of the Philippine National Railways were suspended for five years to give way to the construction of the NSCR.
The government said it would provide alternative means of transportation, particularly through buses.
