MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it is “not convinced” that the highly-anticipated “Barbie” film has depicted China’s nine-dash line.

DFA, in a statement on Wednesday, thanked the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) for the “joint screening” of the movie Barbie to “ascertain if the depiction of the imaginary world map is inimical to the national interest.”

“Having carefully reviewed the film, the Department is not convinced that the lines shown depict anything more than a fictitious path in an imaginary world map,” said DFA.

To prevent further misinterpretation, the DFA said it “provided advice” to MTRCB, but it did not detail what this advice entails.

“The Department trusts that the MTRCB will do its utmost in the exercise of its mandate,” said DFA.

MTRCB on Wednesday allowed the commercial screening of Barbie in Philippine cinemas, saying that the map shown in the motion picture does not depict China’s nine-dash line.
