MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) is looking to employ a hybrid setup to help solve long-running education issues like a shortage of teachers and classrooms.
During a press briefing, DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa said President Ferdinand Marcos had been told that the agency is eyeing to adopt the hybrid practices from the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.
“We presented yung ating ring plano to institutionalize blended learning, for example, in the Philippines, as a permanent mode of delivery. We feel that alongside yung traditional solutions natin of hiring more teachers, building more classrooms, to address the shortages, hindi po kasi mabilis, o hindi po yan nagagawa overnight, that’s why these problems are still with us today,” said Poa.

Poa said that the agency is eyeing a dual approach that will include immediately decongesting the schools.
“We also presented that we are now going on a two-track approach wherein alongside the traditional solutions of building more classrooms and hiring more teachers, we also want to tap into technology, lessons we learned during the pandemic.
“We want to use that to be able to decongest our schools,” added Poa.
Poa, however, clarified that the agency is still looking into the best practices of those in the private sector before implementing any rules, assuring that the quality of learning will not suffer.
