MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Tuesday said it is monitoring a cloud cluster inside the country’s area of responsibility, adding that it may develop into a low-pressure area (LPA) within 48 hours.

Pagasa weather specialist Chenel Dominguez, in a phone interview, told INQUIRER.net that the cloud cluster was spotted east of Luzon. According to Dominguez, they are not ruling out the possibility of this cloud cluster becoming an LPA on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Asked if this could develop into a tropical cyclone, Dominguez said it remained unlikely.

“Mababa pa ang posibilidad pero ito ay tinitignan pang mag intensify into an LPA within the day or the next day,” she stressed.

Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina, in a public forecast on Tuesday, said this potential LPA might move closer to the Philippine landmass and bring cloudy skies, especially in the eastern part of Luzon, in the next few days.

Meanwhile, the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) – a weather system that forms when winds from the southern and northern hemispheres meet — continues to affect Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao. Individuals residing in these areas may particularly experience isolated rain showers on Tuesday.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, on the other hand, may expect favorable and humid weather conditions, but scattered rain showers may still occur due to localized thunderstorms.

Pagasa also listed the following temperature range in the country’s key cities and areas on Tuesday:

  • Metro Manila – 25°C to 33°C
  • Baguio – 17°C to 24°C
  • Laoag – 25°C to 33°C
  • Tagaytay – 22°C to 33°C

  • Legazpi – 25°C to 32°C
