Las Piñas deploys over 1,000 tree planters

As part of its activities to mark Earth Day tomorrow, the Las Piñas city government pledged to add more trees and plants along the roads and public places in the city while strengthening its city-wide cleanup program.

Former Mayor Imelda Aguilar, the city’s clean and green chairperson, said 1,000 volunteers from Kaagapay sa Kalinisan at Kagandahan ng Las Piñas group, along with 300 Task Force Kalinisan volunteer brigades, will participate in the greening program.

Under the program, more trees and decorative shrubs will be planted along Las Piñas’ main and secondary roads. Open spaces such as parks and parking lots will also be landscaped with the addition of more trees.

The volunteers will also coordinate with barangay officials and homeowners’ groups to stress the importance of cleaning up their respective barangays.

“We must take all the necessary preventive measures to ensure a safe and clean environment not only to protect the people but Mother Earth as well,” Aguilar said.

As the volunteers spruce up the streets and public parks, Mayor Vergel Aguilar said the city will also work double time to clean up rivers and other waterways to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

Aguilar urged residents to join the the series of cleanup drives in the rivers and other waterways throughout the summer.
