Malay Democrats induction

The Malay Democrats of the Philippines (MDP) holds the induction at 3 p.m. Saturday of its local leaders in the National Capital Region at Club Filipino in San Juan, where the National Economic Protectionism Association (Nepa) was founded in 1934. MDP is the political arm of Nepa, the oldest NGO in the Philippines, which promotes local products and national industrialization. In 1995, MDP, running then as Lakas ng Pilipino, participated in the Quezon City elections, garnering the second most number of votes. The party has undergone revitalization since 2010 and is now led by former secretary Salvador Enriquez Jr. as chair emeritus and Bayan dela Cruz as president. It has recently decided to participate in the 2013 local elections and is in the process of renaming itself 1Bayan.

Bonsai garden show in QC

The 2nd National Bonsai, Suiseki and Zen Garden Landscaping Show, under the auspices of the Bonsai and Suiseki Alliance of the Philippines Inc., will be held at Hardin ng Mga Bulaklak inside Quezon Memorial from May 5 to 14. Apart from bonsai, suiseki and Zen gardens, the show will also feature innovative bonsai growing or Penjing (bonsai saikei) and an on-the-spot bonsai painting and design contest. BSAPI president Leticia P. Ligon and show chair Vic de Rona said international bonsai masters invited as judges will also give lecture-demos. Among the topics are branching techniques to be discussed by Li Tiong Hong of Taiwan on May 5, and designing and styles by Robert Stevens of Indonesia on May 6.
