MANILA, Philippines — Expect fair but humid weather conditions over most of the country this Friday, the state weather service said, noting that this is due to the easterlies and ridge of high pressure area.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its early morning bulletin that the easterlies is affecting large parts of Visayas and Mindanao while the ridge of high pressure area is affecting Metro Manila and Luzon.

“Patuloy ang mainit at maalinsangang panahon sa malaking bahagi ng ating bansa dulot ng easterlies na siyang nakaka apekto po dito sa malaking bahagi ng Visayas and Mindanao. Asahan pa rin ang mainit na panahon, lalo na sa tanghali na sasamahan ng localized thunderstorms,” said Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja in a public forecast.

(The hot and humid weather continues in a large part of our country due to easterlies which affects a large part of the Visayas and Mindanao. Expect hot weather, especially in the afternoon that will be accompanied by localized thunderstorms.)

He also said: “Ang consequence po [ng ridge of high pressure area] ay mas kakaunti ang kaulapan, so ibig sabihin mas kakaunti ang pag-ulan at mas direktang tatama ang init ng araw.”

(The consequence [of the ridge of high pressure area] is that there are fewer clouds, so that means less rain and the heat of the sun will hit more directly.)

Pagasa likewise reported on Friday that the impact of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) has decreased. It noted that the ITCZ now only affects the southern portion of Palawan.

Pagasa said that it spotted a cloud cluster within this ITCZ which may further approach the Philippine landmass and bring scattered rain showers in Visayas and Mindanao as early as next week.
