MANILA, Philippines — Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda on Thursday expressed her support for the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Secretary Christina Frasco and. cited their efforts to boost Philippine tourism despite recent issues.

“I stand in solidarity with the DOT and Secretary Christina Frasco, who has worked tirelessly and diligently to enhance and promote Philippine tourism,” said Legarda in a statement.

DOT was recently drew flak for its Philippine tourism campaign video that included stock footage of places overseas.

DDB Philippines, the advertising agency that made the said video, already admitted and apologized for the incident. DOT eventually terminated its contract with the firm.

“Let us unite to help and promote our beautiful country and in so doing generate jobs and bring about sustainable livelihoods,” said Legarda.

In a separate statement on Thursday, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri made the same appeal, urging the public to forgive the DOT and allow it to correct its “misstep” and improve its work.

Frasco on Wednesday said the Philippines will continue using the newly-launched “Love the Philippines” slogan despite criticisms.
