MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck off Palauig, Zambales Thursday afternoon, state seismologists said.
The earthquake was recorded 26 kilometers southwest of Palaug at around 3:16 p.m. with a depth of 46 kilometers, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
No aftershocks or property damage are expected, Phivolcs said.
The following areas reported the following felt intensities:
- Intensity IV (moderately strong) – Palauig, Zambales
- Intensity III (weak) – Mandaluyong, Manila, Marikina, Quezon Ciry, Parañaque, Pasay and Pasig in Metro Manila; Agno, Alaminos City, Dasol, Infanta, and Labrador in Pangasinan; Obando, Bulacan; Botolan, Cabangan, Iba, Masinloc, San Marcelino, and Santa Cruz in Zambales
- Intensity II (slightly felt) – Makati, Taguig in Metro Manila; Bautista and Bolinao in Pangasinan; Dagupan City; Floridablanca, Pampanga; Castillejos, San Antonio, San Felipe, Subic and Olongapo in Zambales
Instrumental intensities were also recorded in the following areas:
- Intensity III (weak) – Infanta, Pangasinan; Santa Ignacia, Tarlac; Botolan, Cabagan, Iba, and San Marcelino in Zambales
- Intensity II (slightly felt) – Bani, Pangasinan; Dagupan City; Abucay and Dinalupihan in Bataan; Obando, Bulacan; Bamban and Ramos in Tarlac; Olongapo, Zambales
- Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) – Malabon, Quezon City, Pasig in Metro Manila; Baler, Aurora; Angat, Guguinto, Malolos, Marilao and San Ildefonso in Bulacan; Bongabon, Nueva Ecija; and Magalang and San Fernando City in Pampanga
Felt intensity is the ground shaking actually felt and reported by the people through the Phivolcs Earthquake Intensity Scale, while instrumental intensity was indicated by the ground shaking intensity measured by the intensity meters in and around the epicentral area.
