LUCENA CITY — Two people were injured Wednesday morning after a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank in the kitchen of a laundry shop exploded in Lopez town in Quezon province.
A Quezon police spot report identified the injured victims as the shop’s kitchen staff Shaira Panganiban, 20, and helper Helen Masaganda, 48.
The police said Panganiban had turned on the LPG tank inside the kitchen of the laundry shop owned by a certain Ariel Sale in Barangay Magsaysay around 8 a.m. when it exploded.
Panganiban suffered burns in different parts of her body, while Masaganda had bruises on her left knee.
Local firemen immediately rushed to the scene and conducted first aid on the victims before they were brought to the hospital for treatment.
The initial investigation showed that a possible leak in the tank may have triggered the explosion, which also damaged the laundry shop’s interior and shattered windows of other stores nearby.
It was not clear in the report whether or not the laundry shop was already open for business when the incident happened.
