MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday terminated its search and rescue operations for the remaining six missing crew members of a fishing boat that sank off Davao Oriental last week.

Big waves battered the fishing vessel Genesis 2 and sank shortly after midnight on June 22, 182 nautical miles off Baganga, Davao Oriental.

“At around 11:39 p.m. yesterday, 28 June 2023, the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao decided to terminate the search and rescue operations today, 29 June 2023 — seven days after the maritime accident,” the PCG said in an advisory on Thursday.

“However, the said PCG District will continue to alert transiting vessels for possible sightings of the six missing crew,” it added.

According to PCG, a survivor of the boat said that the six missing crew members might still be trapped inside the said ship.

The PCG said it had rescued 14 crew members and recovered three bodies.
