Cebuano Pogoy to start for FEU in UAAP hoop

CEBUANO COACH Bert Flores of the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws revealed that former University of Cebu (UC) standout Roger Pogoy has made it to the varsity squad that will compete in the upcoming UAAP men’s tournament, taking JR Cawaling’s slot in the starting five.

This he revealed even as the team received bad news that power forward Cameroonian Pipo Nuondou will be sidelined from the rest of the UAAP tournament because of a torn achiless tendon injury.

“Si (Roger) Pogoy, kasama na sa lineup,” said Flores. “Pamalit siya ni (JR) Cawaling, who has been relegated to the second group.”

Nuondou’s injury appears to be a difference-maker. Noundou suffered the injury late in the fourth period of FEU’s semifinal game against the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the Fil-Oil Flying V Hanes Preseason Tournament. Fortunately, Flores still has a plethora of power forwards at his disposal with Aldrech Ramos, Mark Bringas, Russell Escoto and Christian Sentcheu. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
