MANILA, Philippines — A catholic bishop from Palawan has launched an appeal for the construction of a cathedral dedicated to St. Joseph the Worker.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Tuesday said the cathedral in need of construction is the St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral in Taytay, Palawan.

Quoting Bishop Broderick Pabillo of the Apostolic Vicariate of Taytay, CBCP said the appeal aims to raise at least P90 million.

“We humbly appeal to your generosity to be one of our benefactors in building the house of God in Taytay,” Pabillo said.

CBCP said the cathedral’s construction began in 2019, but the COVID-19 pandemic hampered it. Meanwhile, its available funds were used to “prioritize the needs of people,” utilizing it to help build houses and boats destroyed by tropical cyclones.

“I have heard the desire of the people and the clergy to finish the construction,” said Pabillo. “Now, in the year 2023, God willing, we plan to put our attention and efforts [into] building the cathedral,” he added.

CPCP underscored that the construction project is an “act of faith” by the clergy and the faithful.
