MANILA, Philippines — Mayon’s volcanic earthquake had further increased, now totaling 107, state seismologists said on Tuesday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the Mayon’s activity from 5:00 a.m. on June 26 to 5:00 a.m. on June 27.
Earlier, as many as 100 quakes occurred for the first 10 hours of the measuring period alone.
In the previous period, only 102 volcanic earthquakes were recorded.
Phivolcs noted that the increase in volcanic earthquakes has begun since June 24.
On the other hand, the state volcanologists recorded a decrease in the Mayon volcano’s rockfall events and the volume of sulfur dioxide flux it emitted.
The volcano saw 241 rockfall events with 753 metric tons of sulfur dioxide flux, a slight decrease compared to 263 rockfall events and 925 metric tons of sulfur dioxide flux reported previously.
Mayon Volcano has been under Alert Level 3 since June 8, with the unrest seen to last for a few months based on the volcano monitor’s observations.
