2 million bivalent doses under negotiation with Covax — DOH chief

MANILA, Philippines — Negotiations for about 2 million bivalent vaccines against COVID-19 are ongoing, said Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa on Wednesday.

According to Herbosa, the vaccines will not come directly from any national government but from the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Covax.

“Mayroon akong naririnig na 2 million in negotiation, 2 million doses. I cannot tell you the date, but we are waiting for that. Covax will help get that 2 million,” said Herbosa during an ambush interview at the launch of bivalent vaccination at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City.

Covax is a global program that aims to accelerate the production, development, and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world, according to the WHO’s website.

The government kicked off bivalent vaccination on Wednesday, with around 2,500 healthcare workers receiving the first shots in the country.
