Comelec to purge double or multiple registrations for 2023 BSKE
MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday said it would begin purging its voters’ database of duplicate or duplicated registrations in preparation for the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
In a statement, the Comelec said that the poll body is now set to conduct a Special Election Registration Board hearing to tackle the removal of multiple registrations.
The move was in response to the Commission en banc’s following directives:
- The abatement of double or multiple registrants at the local level (city or municipal);
- The deletion of the original Voter’s Registration Records of transferees:
- Within the same city or municipality (barangay)
- To other city or municipality and the retention of transferees’ Voter’s Registration Records in the city or municipality transferred to;
- The deletion of the voter’s registration records of deceased persons as reported or confirmed by the Local Civil Registrars (per their duly issued Certificate of Death); and
- The inclusion/exclusion of Voter’s Registration Records per the decisions/orders of the Metropolitan Trial Courts/Municipal Trial Courts/ Municipal Trial Court in Cities.
Following the hearing, the Election Day Computerized Voter’s List and Posted Computerized Voter’s List will be distributed to the accredited citizens’ arms Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting and the National Movement for Free Elections for inspection and examination.
In May, Comelec found around 400,000 double or multiple registrants for the Oct. 30 BSKE.
